“The new operators will oversee a new chapter for Sheffield’s best loved venues as they look ahead to an exciting future, with investment powering a series of improvement works, funded by Sheffield City Council and ASM Global,” a press release from ASM Global states.
In the case of Utilita Arena, the vision is “to reimagine the venue as a world-class touring destination, while developing the venue experience at Sheffield City Hall in line with its prestigious heritage identity.”
Work begins this month and is set to continue throughout the year whilst the venue remains open to entertain fans for the duration.
It includes transforming the fan experience, and reimagining the event-day guest experience throughout the entire venue. The first phase will focus on enhancements to the venue concourses including more points of sale to improve speed of service, improvements to the entire food and beverage offering, improved digital signage on the concourses, scan-and-collect options for drinks, and more. The building will for instance receive the automated self-serve drinks solution Boxbar.

In terms of Utilita Arena’s premium spaces, there will be additional developments such as “new supersuite spaces,” a newly refurbished arena club, and revamped lounges.
The venue’s capacity will increase, as well, and its back of house will be upgraded with a complete overhaul of the backstage areas for artists, production and crew, to ensure a best-in-class experience for all who set foot in the venue.
Recent boxoffice reports submitted to Pollstar for shows at Utilita Arena Sheffield include six nights of Les Misérables, Oct. 10-15, 2024, selling 32,153 tickets at a $2,690,866 gross; or comedian Peter Kay’s Sept. 6 performance, selling 12,206 tickets at a $933,023 gross.
At Sheffield City Hall, improvements include the addition of more tills, and a new and improved food and beverage offering. In spring, the focus will be on enhancing the customer journey around the venue, with improved signage, screens and security.
“ASM Global’s operation of the venue will retain a heavy focus on upholding the cultural heritage of what is one of Sheffield’s most historic buildings, futureproofing it for years to come while preserving its iconic features,” the press release states.
Refurbishing an existing arena is recognized as a more environmentally-friendly way of providing up to date spaces.
